The Sundance Film Festival is one of the largest independent film festivals in the world! Held annually in Park City, Utah, it sold nearly 140,000 tickets in 2023, hosting more than 20,000 people visited Utah bringing in $118 million in economic development.

Founded by actor and director Robert Redford in 1978. The festival showcases independent films from around the world, including feature films, documentaries, and short films. Sundance has become a crucial event for independent filmmakers to showcase their work and often serves as a launchpad for emerging talent. The festival also includes panel discussions, workshops, and other events aimed at supporting and promoting independent filmmaking.

Sundance Move To Atlanta?

 "Atlanta has become a major part of the Hollywood story economically and culturally and also, it’s clear, this is one of the cultural epicenters of the United States of America," said Deadline Executive Editor Dominic Patten.  

That’s why Patten says the Hollywood of the South is a strong contender to host the nation’s largest independent film festival. He's reported the competition includes San Francisco, upstate New York, and Savannah. according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Cities have until June 27, 2024 to submit proposals to host the festival in 2027.
